24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” Matthew 7:24-27

We’ve all probably heard this story. It’s a familiar one, and it also popped up in my inbox today and had a different resonation with me.

Sometimes we get caught up in the fact that we are facing adversity, that our life is hard and that things are not fair. But what we conveniently forget in these times, is that everyone has rough patches. Sure, they’re all individual situations, but EVERYONE faces adversity. Everyone struggles.

What we need to bank on, is the fact that we have a security system, a strong foundation and a promise that we will never be put through anything that we cannot endure. There is a christian music song with the lyrics “I might bend but I won’t break”. Christ won’t break us. He might allow us to bend, and to endure, but we will never be alone, and as long as we are leaning into Him during our hard times, we will come out into the light on the other side.
